Dear friends and colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to invite you to participate in the XIV Congress of the Spanish Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health (SEMTSI), which will be held in the city of Salamanca under the motto “Tropical Spain: Challenges and Opportunities.”
This scientific meeting is being held at a key moment for Tropical Medicine and Global Health worldwide and particularly in our country. Phenomena such as climate change, the expansion of vectors, the emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases, migratory movements, and the growing interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health are redefining the Spanish epidemiological map. In this context, the concept of Tropical Spain acquires special relevance, inviting us to reflect on current challenges and response opportunities from a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective.
The congress will bring together leading professionals at national and international level with the aim of generating a space for meeting, scientific updating, and debate around the main current challenges of Tropical Medicine, imported and emerging diseases, and International Health, from a clinical, laboratory, epidemiological, and public health perspective.
The scientific program, designed with a cross-cutting and applied approach, will address issues of the utmost relevance and high clinical and health impact, including the epidemiological reality and the emerging challenges of the so-called Tropical Spain; the impact of climate change on health from an integrated One Health approach; Global Health and the care of mobile populations together with the role of primary care; the general context of Tropical Medicine in Europe; and the main clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic challenges associated with tropical and emerging diseases.
The congress will be held in the city of Salamanca, a historical reference point for knowledge and university teaching, which at this time commemorates the V Centenary of the School of Salamanca, a pioneering intellectual movement in European humanistic, legal, and scientific thought. This legacy of critical reflection, social commitment, and universal vocation offers an exceptional symbolic and academic framework for scientific exchange and the strengthening of professional networks.
We are convinced that this congress will be a unique opportunity to share experiences, promote collaborations, and move forward together in the development of Tropical Medicine and International Health in Spain.
Kind regards,
The Organizing Committee
